This album, my soundtrack for this past year, is mostly about trying to be present in the moment while going through a difficult time. I’d like to thank everyone who has kept me in their heart during this period of challenge and change.
The Bottom Drops Out - If there is a possibility it can happen, it will. And it did. I’m thankful that I fell up a lot of the time when it did. Again, thanks to all that lifted me up.
Compassion For My Machine - There’s a part of me, my machine, my auto-pilot, that gets threatened when it becomes obvious that what I’ve been doing up to that point isn’t working anymore, and more likely, never has.
You Can Get There From Here (sorrow to joy) - The same chords are used in both the sorrow and joy sections of this song. The difference being that they fly in different skies. One in a dark and cloudy sky, the other, sunny and breezy. What makes up sorrow and joy is the same thing. One is missing the other while the other rejoices having it.
Let It In Let It Out - We die with every out-breath and come back to life with every in-breath. Letting go of what we no longer need and then building on what remains.
It Didn’t Always Smell Like That (For C) - This song uses perfume as a metaphor for a relationship. There are three parts to a fragrance: the top notes, the sweet initial impression; the heart or main body notes, which act to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes; the base notes, which bring depth and solidity. The notes should unfold over time, harmoniously, one into another. First blush, what lingers, and what remains.

Suburban Velvet Uprising What is a SVU? It's a new emerging mind set that eschews standard suburban norms. Not quite a revolution - it' a velvet uprising. Little things like insisting on healthy organic food instead of fast food. Or riding a bike to the store, not just for exercise, but because it's unnecessary to drive. People tearing up their front lawns and planting their own vegetable gardens. A friend of mine and her family, to avoid waste, is NOT buying anything new for a year, though they could easily afford to. There is an endless list of things I could mention but the over all feeling (Obama '08!) of the SVU is of one trying to regain harmony with the world instead of consume it. A realization that we can't continue on the path we're on. I've been a middle class suburbanite all my life and things are getting interesting out here after many years of being ... the same. We change because we either "see the light" or "feel the heat." For one reason or another, change is coming to a suburb near you!

A lot has happened in the world and to Skyhead since the release of the 2002 Obstructed View CD. The new CD, Quodlibet, Skyhead's 20th, chronicles those changes. Remember back in '02 when you didn't know what WMD meant? Well since then we've sent our children underprepared into a war of lies. We've tried to hold people accountable, gotten angry, sought spiritual peace and the strength to forgive while trying to keep our sense of humor. If this is your experience, then Quodlibet is your soundtrack.

From opening to closing credits, building tension to release, Obstructed View flows like a film from beginning to end with ambient grooves and guitar as leading characters. Though more downbeat than the projects that came before, it contains a few scenes of weird percussion breaks and Zappa-esque guitar solos. Obstructed View is an eclectic mix of sounds and influences under the directorship of Skyhead.
